Why Symbols
Types and shadows; the Bible speaks to us in three ways figuratively, literally, and symbolically. All through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation the Bible is full of types and shadows to show us most of all, God's plan for salvation. The Old Testament points to the coming of Jesus: God told Abraham to take his only son who he loved to offer him as a burnt offering on the alter of wood. He bound his only son and raised the knife to kill him when the angel of the Lord stopped him, and provided a ram for the burnt offering, and because Abraham obeyed, in his seed (faithful Abraham) shall all of the nations of the earth be blessed. In the New Testament God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes (have faith) in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life, so Abraham’s son Isaac was a Type of Jesus, and being willing to take his sons life was a shadow of Jesus (The only begotten Son of God) dying on the cross and being raised on the third day.
When Adam disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden he condemned the human race to death. Jesus is called the second Adam because of his obedience, and all those who believe in Jesus, can have everlasting life.
The whole idea of the tabernacle, and the High Priest in his Holy Garments, and the killing of a innocent animal for the sins of a guilty human race is a shadow of the Lord Jesus (the lamb of God) without spot or blemish, the Son of God, as well as the perfect and last sacrifice, crucified on the cross for our sins, ( the innocent for the sins of a guilty human race) so that we can have everlasting life in heaven with God.
A type is a symbol or representation of something. A shadow is an imperfect imitation or copy, a partially illuminated area pointing at things to come. Types and shadows, help us understand the spiritual world by using natural things. A clearer understanding of truth, through types and shadows help us to know that 66 different books written by at least 40 authors over 1500 years and all 66 books compliment each other; that God is the author of the Bible, Holy men spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Don’t take lightly the Breastplate, the Mitre, the Ephod, as well as types and shadows.
